in Madrid alone there are 26, to which must be added another 32 in the rest of the country -, most of them with a political vocation, but also some dedicated to literature and the arts. After the Barcelona precedent of <span> <\/span><em>The European<\/em><span> <\/span>(1823-1824),<span> <\/span><em>El Vapor<\/em><span> <\/span>(1833-1838),<span> <\/span><em>La Estrella<\/em><span> <\/span>(1833-1834),<span> <\/span><em>La Abeja<\/em><span> <\/span>(1834-1836),<span> <\/span><em>El Eco del Comercio<\/em><span> <\/span>(1834-1841) or<span> <\/span><em>El Espa\u00f1ol<\/em><span> <\/span>emerged in Madrid (1835-1837), founded by<span> <\/span><strong>Andr\u00e9s Borrego<\/strong>.<span> <\/span><strong>Manuel Mar\u00eda de Santa Ana<\/strong>, administrator of<span> <\/span><em>El Diario de Sevilla<\/em>, founded in Madrid<span> <\/span><em>Carta aut\u00f3grafa<\/em><span> <\/span>(1848), later converted into<span> <\/span><em>Correspondencia de Espa\u00f1a<\/em><span> <\/span>(1853), first Spanish newspaper to be sold on the street and not by subscription.<\/p>\n<p>The Sunday one stands out in particular<span> <\/span><em>El Artista<\/em><span> <\/span>(1835-1836), founded by<span> <\/span><strong>Eugenio de Ochoa<\/strong>,<span> <\/span><strong>Federico de Madrazo<\/strong><span> <\/span>y el conde de Campo Alange. With the support of the Royal Lithographic Establishment, governed by <span> <\/span><strong>Jos\u00e9 de Madrazo<\/strong>, The magazine included one or two original lithographed prints as illustrations for poems or articles. Other publications followed in its short wake, such as <span> <\/span><em>No me olvides<\/em><span> <\/span>(1837-1838), founded by<span> <\/span><strong>Jacinto Salas Quiroga<\/strong>, defender of an ideologically moderate romanticism; or the<span> <\/span><em>Semanario Pintoresco Espa\u00f1ol<\/em><span> <\/span>(1836-1857), the great magazine of costumbrismo founded by<span> <\/span><strong>Ram\u00f3n Mesonero Romanos<\/strong><span> <\/span>and imitated by the fleeting<span> <\/span><em>Observatorio Pintoresco<\/em><span> <\/span>(1837) or by<span> <\/span><em>El Siglo Pintoresco<\/em><span> <\/span>(1845-1848). El Liceo Art\u00edstico y Literario, aparecida en 1838, fue el \u00f3rgano de expresi\u00f3n de la instituci\u00f3n cultural de id\u00e9ntico t\u00edtulo fundada un a\u00f1o antes por Jos\u00e9 Fern\u00e1ndez de la Vega e \u00edntimamente unida a la Casa Real. <\/p>\n<p>It is also worth highlighting other periodical publications, such as the<span> <\/span><em>Voz de la Religi\u00f3n<\/em><span> <\/span>(1837-1841), from Barcelona, defender of a conservative romanticism in the line of Chateaubriand, or<span> <\/span><em>El Alba<\/em><span> <\/span>(1838-1839), which featured articles in defense of a moderate romanticism. The list can be extended with titles such as those of <span> <\/span><em>El Panorama<\/em><span> <\/span>(1838-1841),<span> <\/span><em>La Esperanza<\/em><span> <\/span>(1839-1840),<span> <\/span><em>Revista de Madrid<\/em><span> <\/span>(1838-1845), politically moderate, or<span> <\/span><em>El Entreacto<\/em><span> <\/span>(1839-1840), founded, among others, by<span> <\/span><strong>Zorrilla<\/strong>.
